Indian Statistical Institute
Kolkata

The Kolkata campus of the Indian Statistical Institute is located in a sprawling 30-acre estate on the Barrackpore Trunk Road (B.T. Road) in the Baranagar suburb of Greater Kolkata. It consists of three parts – the office complex, the residential complex and the International Statistical Education Centre complex. The three complexes are separated by public roads, though connected through pedestrian subways. Two major roads run along the campus – Barrackpore Trunk Road (B. T. Road) along the eastern boundary whereas Gopal Lal Tagore (GLT) Road runs along the western boundary of the campus. The three parts bear the following door numbers:
•    203 B. T. Road – the main campus – office complex;
•    205 B. T. Road – the guest house and residential campus;
•    202 B. T. Road – International Statistical Education Centre campus.

The lectures will be held at three locations, all situated at the main campus (203 B. T. Road):

  • The Soft Computing Research Unit (SCRU) seminar hall on the first floor of R. A. Fisher Bhavan, marked (A) on the map.

  • 3.0 seminar hall on the third floor of R. A. Fisher Bhavan, marked (A) on the map.

  • The workshop inauguration followed by Session 1.1 and the cultural program at Day 2 will be held in the Auditorium of the Platinum Jubilee Building, marked (B) on the map.

Accommodation for the outstation participants has been arranged at two guest houses located at two campuses – 205 and 202. The main guest house is situated at 205 B. T. Road campus. Please note that all delegates have to report first at the reception of the main guest house. The check in and check out time at both the guest houses are 12 noon.

How to reach the guest house

We suggest that you should better hire a taxi from the prepaid taxi booth, located outside the station and airport premises. While hiring a prepaid taxi, mention Bonhooghly as your destination. The blue-bordered yellow taxis of Kolkata run on meter. You can also use apps like Ola and Uber to hire a cab from the airport.

From Sealdah/ Howrah/ Kolkata railway stations: While coming by taxi, the general direction is towards Dunlop crossing. The more specific location should be given by Bonhooghly, as the driver may not be familiar with the location of the guest house. The guest house campus will be on your left on B. T. Road coming from the south (Howrah station or Sealdah station, for example) after crossing Ananya Cinema Hall which does not exist anymore, though the place is still known by that name.

From the airport: If you are coming from the airport, the taxi-driver may also take the elevated Belghoria expressway, get out on the P.W.D. Road near Dakshineshwar. After that, there is a flyover. Once you get off the flyover, first there is a pedestrian crossing, followed by a road crossing, both with traffic lights. The second crossing is Bonhooghly, and the guest house will be on your right just after the crossing.

The guest house of 202 B. T. Road campus (top floor of the C. D. Deshmukh Bhavan, marked D on the map) can be reached through two pedestrian subways. You will find the first subway just opposite the main guest house (marked C in the map) which will lead you to the main campus, head towards north and after an enjoyable walk of around 5-10 minutes through our beautiful green campus, you will reach the second pedestrian subway, just opposite the Platinum Jubilee Building (marked B on the map). The guest house of the 202 campus is situated on the other side of this subway. Collect your keys from the security of the building and take the elevator to the top floor where the guest rooms are located.

Please note that the meal requested by you in the ‘accommodation request form’ during your stay will be provided only at the main guest house.

Guest house facilities:

Phone calls: Each room in the Guest House has a phone connection with its four-digit number written on it. The complete number can be obtained by putting 2575 before them. You may receive calls directly on that phone. To call the phone from outside Calcutta, but within India, put 033 before those eight digits. To call from abroad, put 009133 before the eight digits.

Computer access: Both the guest houses are Wi-Fi enabled. You will receive an email on the network and password for this. There are few computers in the computer room on the ground floor of the main guest house as well.

The guest house staffs will clean your room if you leave your keys at the reception desk when you are leaving the facility in the morning (before 10 am).

ATM: There is one ATM of Allahabad Bank just outside the first pedestrian subway. Any ATM card or credit card with a Visa, MasterCard or Maestro logo can be used at these ATMs to withdraw INR currency notes. Further, there is an ATM of Axis Bank across the B. T. Road 100 metres to your right, if you exit the guest house campus through 205, B. T. Road gate.
